My name is Sarah Young. I am an ambitious and determined, self taught singer/songwriter from Banbury. I am also learning to play the guitar and keyboard – however, I am not up to scratch to accompany myself with either of those hence the delivery of my song ‘Pearls’ is acapella. In the last year of the three that I have been singing, I have recorded with up-and-coming Indie band The Keyz – performing with them live at The Cavern – Liverpool, The Grand – Clapham, Half Moon – Putney and many more venues around the UK including The Vaults in Banbury. We have a paid residency and huge support from the venue, even launching our first EP ‘Super Star Gazer’ there on August 23rd. We recorded this at our home built studio – every spare penny and waking minute of the day has gone into this investment.
Last August I had the great pleasure of working for Grammy Award winning songwriter/producer Kenny Young on a demo at his famous studio, Lazy Moon, after he saw me perform ‘Pearls’ with The Keyz at a wedding. It was extremely humbling to be working with musicians of such a high calibre; however, it did give me the much needed confidence to pursue a career in the music business. It also made me realise how important networking is, so I have decided to move to London and get professional training. I am a firm believer in doing a job properly or not at all – which is why I want to study at The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in October 2008, so that I can develop my talent to the highest standard and continue with vital networking.
