My first life was lived in Kansas, 30 minutes from Kansas City on 140 acres outside the rural community of Spring Hill. I played baseball, played piano, and didn’t want for much. Singing has always been second nature to me. I’d sit and listen for hours to the radio, and try to make my voice match what I heard from my heroes. I tightened my skills and expanded my range in college, where I trained in opera and performed in the choir, while pitching for the baseball team. Through friendly motivation, I began teaching myself guitar so I could play and sing at parties and fell in love…This type of performing felt so much more personal to me than classical performance. My second life began with a move to Antwerp, Belgium one week after graduation where I played professional baseball. In my downtime between games, I learned how to write and express myself through music and lyrics. Not every song I wrote was a jem, but more importantly, I developed the confidence that I could write something meaningful, if to no one but myself. This confidence led me to my next move to Los Angeles and down the road I now tread. Trying times, hard work and heartache sometimes cloud and muddy this path, but the journey is a reward in itself. As I learn more about myself, and where this next chapter will take me, I find it helpful to turn to the works of John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Jeff Buckley, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger and Billy Joel for direction. They still say it better than I can…but I’m learning…
