I’m not sure the films too clear but it’s all about the song right?!
(she hopes!) It’s called ‘Losing my head’ and it’s about the accelerating pace of modern city life! I do write songs about normal things like boys and broken hearts too, along with drowning refugees and drunken dancehall queens! Anyway it was hard to decide which song to enter so I hope you like it!
I’ve always loved music.. singing, playing guitar, piano and most recently ukulelee. Always been a big fan too with a big ‘ole collection of vinyl and CDs.
I’ve also always loved writing and song writing is what I’ve wanted to do more than anything for as long as I can remember. For some reason I had a bit of a block about it for a long time and kept the songs I wrote top secret cos I didn’t think them any good. I was pretty shy about singing too but 4 months busking in Spain cured that! After that I went on the Bath Spa songwriting course, 6 days that changed my life. I learnt lots about the craft of song writing, met some great people whom I still see and best of all got really good feedback on my songs which was the push I needed.
Since then (2 years ago) I’ve been so busy making up for lost time. I’ve written many more songs, got a band together and found us gigs in Bristol, Bath and London and at festivals in the UK and Spain.
I was a finalist in the Radio 2 new songwriter competition earlier this year and was invited to take part in a follow up showcase event alongside some fantastic talented people. It would mean so much to me to win this scholarship because song writing is the thing I love to do most and I’m sure there are better songs to come with the right support and guidance!
